Possessing a distinctive voice with a heart-on-his-sleeve emotional honesty, Canaan Smith has emerged as one of country music’s most compelling new artists. Whether it is Canaan’s earth shaking anthems, poignant slice of life songs or tough and sexy ballads, Canaan captures the attention of every audience. Moving to Nashville in 2005, he immediately dove in and began making friends and music, co-writing the top 10 hit “Runaway,” recorded by his buddies, country duo Love & Theft, and it didn’t stop there.
Now a Mercury recording artist, Canaan has been on some of the biggest stages with some of the hottest acts in country music including Sugarland, Florida Georgia Line, Dierks Bentley, Corey Smith, David Nail, LeAnn Rimes, Darius Rucker, Craig Morgan, Chase Rice, Gloriana, Vince Gill, and more! He released his debut single “We Got Us” in 2012 and also made his Grand Ole Opry debut the same year. Kicking off 2014, Canaan is gearing up for the Country Deep AT&T Tour with country singer/songwriter Jana Kramer.
Canaan’s musical influences range from Country superstar Dierks Bentley to R&B sensation Bruno Mars, but make no mistake – Canaan’s country roots run deep. “I grew up listening to music in general and that included every genre, from the hardest rock to the twangiest country,” he says. “I have video recordings of me singing George Strait songs to my mom and also fond memories of my dad and I head-banging in the car to Rage Against the Machine.” Even while Canaan is incessantly touring, he finds himself in the outdoors; where he feels the most alive. When listening to Canaan’s songs, you hear that passion of being outside working it’s way into the music.
Canaan Smith is a passionate and charismatic artist with a down-to-earth personality on and off- stage. After hearing the truth and stories behind each of his songs just once, you walk away feeling Canaan’s strength and passion for life, music, and his career. At a live show you can always find him connecting with fans at the merchandise booth. “One of my favorite things is being able to connect to people through music. I’ve always admired the way my heroes have related to fans with their stories.”
